Chesapeake Bay Retrievers Field Trails

Many people don't understand what FC means on a Chesapeake Bay Retrievers pedigree.  FC means Field Trial Champion on the Pedigree, AFC means Amateur Field Champion on a pedigree.  NAFC means National Amateur Field Champion on a pedigree only one is awarded every year and NFC means National Field Champion on a breeders pedigree.  A Member Field Trial is a field trial at which championship points may be awarded for a Chesapeake Bay Retriever.

Member Field trails are given by a club or association which is a member of The American Kennel Club. A Licensed Field Trial is a field trial at which championship points may also be awarded for a Chesapeake Bay Retrievers.  These field trials are given by a club or association which is not a member of The American Kennel Club, but which has been specially licensed by The American Kennel Club to give the specific field trial designated in the license. Sanctioned Field Trials are informal field trial at which Chesapeake Bay Retrievers may compete but not for championship points.  These Field Trials are held by a club or association, whether or not they are a member of The American Kennel Club, by obtaining the sanction of The American Kennel Club.

Each year a national field trial event is held.  There are over 40 Labradors (and judges that own Labradors) for every Chesapeake Bay Retriever.  Every 5-10 years the Chesapeake Bay Retrievers run away with the national competition. Even if the judges that owned labs were not prejudiced this is 5-8 times as often Chesapeake Bay Retriever should win statistically if Labs and Chesies were equals as retrievers.  In 2001 there were over 180,000 Labs which is the most common breed that is registered.  There are only 4500 Chesapeake Bay Retrievers.
